چکیده

In this paper, we report on the space-selective precipitation of silver nanoparticles in ion-exchanged silicabased glasses, by simultaneous continuous wave UV exposure and heat treatment. Changes in the absorption spectrum of the glass are explained by the growth of the silver nanoparticles when increasing the UV power density and the annealing temperature. Nanoparticles of average diameter 40 nm have been observed, whereas silver nanoparticles formed under laser exposure at room temperature are usually limited to few nanometers in diameters.

Study of the silver diffusion in soda lime and borosilicate glasses: effects on mechanical properties of glasses

It is well known that silver nanoparticles have been used for centuries as a yellow tint for glasses, which made the silver a revolutionary colorant used to paint the windows of the religious places. An ion exchange non-conventional process comely called medieval pigment without using molten salts has long been used as a method for coloring the glass. In the same subject, this work aims to stud...

Micro-channels over the glass surface made by interaction of Ar+ laser beam and Ag+/Na+ ion-exchanged glasses

Micro-channels are made over the Ag+/Na+ ion-exchanged soda-lime glass surface by interaction of an intense Ar+ laser beam and the silver ions inside the glass matrix. The Ar+ laser beam reduces the Ag+ ions inside the matrix. The Ag+ atoms aggregate into silver nano-clusters around the interaction area, inside the glass matrix. Aggregation of the silver atoms and the thermal effects of the int...

Controllable Synthesis of Silver Nanoparticles Using Citrate as Complexing Agent: Characterization of Nanopartciles and Effect of pH on Size and Crystallinity

A method for the controllable synthesis of silver nanoparticles based on a complexing agent method was developed. Citric acid was used as a complexing agent. The effect of pH (1.6 to 5.17) on the size and net height (as obtained from XRD analyses) of silver nanoparticles was investigated. The nanoparticles (10 to 40 nm) were characterized using XRD, TEM, SEM, EDX, UV-Vis spectrosco...

XAFS Studies of Silver Environments in Ion-Exchanged Glasses

The X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) technique was used to analyze the structural geometry of Ag atoms introduced into soda-lime silicate glass and soda aluminosilicate glass by ion-exchange methods. The results show that Ag ions in aluminosilicate glass are coordinated by about two oxygens and the nearest-neighbor Ag-O distance increases when the Ag-for-Na ion-exchange ratio is larger th...

EXAFS Study of Silver and Rubidium Environments in Silicate Glasses

In order to study local order around Ag and Rb ions in ionexchanged glasses EXAFS experiments were performed after thermal annealiigs at different temperatures below and above the glass transformation temperature. By means of Ag K-edge spectra three coordination spheres could be discussed. Whereas the two Ag-O distances remain unchanged during thermal treatments the Ag-Ag correlation exhibits t...
